New for the 2018 season, try-outs for the Varsity Cheer Squads will be held on May 12, 2018 at 8:30am at the Mifflin Park Gym (instead of at Mini-Camp in August). This decision was made so that our mini-camp and first practices of the season can be more productive. If your daughter does not try-out, she will still be able to cheer as part of our JV squads. For your daughter’s safety, Cheer Coordinators place girls on squads based on both age and ability. As you can imagine, when girls are lifting and tossing other girls into the air and above their head, safety precautions must be strictly adhered to. All coaches are certified stunt instructors by the Eastern Conference Scholastic Cheer Coaches Association and follow PIAA Rules and Regulations as applicable to the Berks Inter-County Youth Cheerleading League. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask us: firstname.lastname@example.org
Mini-Camp is typically held during the second week of August. Official dates will be announced in May. This summer camp is a GMHS is a Fundraiser for the Governor Mifflin High School Cheerleaders. Report to the High School Stadium 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This is a pre-registration event only, there are no registrations on the night of camp. Attire is shorts, tee-shirts, sneakers, hair pulled back, no jewelry or earrings. NOTE: WATER ONLY on the turf and stadium fields, no gatorade or other drinks allowed. This is a school board policy.
Practice will begin in Mid-August. Please plan your vacation schedule accordingly.
Meet on the field adjacent to the Softball Field, across from the Education Center. Park in the High School Parking Lot. There will be a parent informational meeting on the first day of practice at 6:00 pm sharp. Girls will warm up all together. Please wear shorts, tee-shirt, and sneakers. NO JEWELRY, NO EARRINGS. Please do not get your daughter’s ears pierced at this time or throughout the season, or she will not be allowed to stunt. Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail or braid.
Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm throughout the season unless otherwise rescheduled due to the rain. Games will be either Saturdays or Sundays depending upon which level your cheerleader is assigned to. Game schedules are NOT released until after Labor Day. This is due to football league team rosters being changed up until the Berks Brawl Tournament. Please be mindful that Governor Mifflin DOES NOT produce the game schedule, it is produced by the BICYCL League (Berks Inter-County Youth Cheer and Football League) and we will not know the official schedule until the League distributes the schedule to us.
Squad Assignments will be made on or before the first practice. Before girls can be assigned to a squad, they are evaluated for both age and ability. Varsity Try-Outs are being held on May 12, 2018 at 8:30am at the Mifflin Park Gym. If you daughter is not able to make it to the try-out, she will be assigned to one of our JV squads based on her age. Cheer Coordinators reserve the right to assign girls to Varsity Squads based on their demonstrated ability. Once your daughter is assigned to a squad, you will receive additional communications directly from your SIPLAY account as well as from your coaches. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please download and print the MEDICAL CONSENT FORM which is required by August 7, 2018 in order to participate in the Fall Cheerleading Season. Please be reminded that this form needs to be completed each year. Many local doctor’s offices require several weeks leeway in order to get these forms signed. Please plan accordingly.
